Sci-Cafe: What Everyone Should Know About Fungi
June 22, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Mushrooms are perhaps the most well-known members of fungi, but they are just the “tip of the iceberg” when it comes to world of microbial activity beyond our sight in the soil below. What are fungi and what distinguishes them from the plants and animals we readily recognize? What exactly is a mushroom? What role does it play in the life history of its species? Dr. Tom Dolan will present a bit of background on the Kingdom Fungi before focusing on mushrooms, including their structure, function, and diversity of forms. He will also cover mushroom identification techniques while presenting photos of common Florida mushrooms.
He is now retired Emeritus Professor of Biological Sciences from Butler University of 32 years.
