Protecting Endangered Sea Turtles

Donna Knutson will provide an overview of the 2024 sea turtle nesting season on St. George Island. She began her work in sea turtle conservation as a volunteer from 2019 to 2023 before joining the Apalachicola Reserve staff in 2024 as Volunteer Coordinator and leader of the St. George Island Turtle Patrol.
During her presentation, Donna will share key statistics from the 2024 season, including the number of nests laid, hatchlings, false crawls, and disorientations, along with trends and comparisons to previous years. She will highlight major challenges, particularly disorientations and their causes, and offer practical ways beachgoers can support sea turtle conservation.
