Living Shorelines to Prevent Erosion
March 11, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join us for a presentation and discussion on the use of living shorelines as an alternative to hardened shorelines. Hurricane Michael left proof that living shorelines can protect property from erosion and survive intense storms as well as or even better than a seawall or hardened shorelines. Living shorelines also make it easier to access the water for humans and wildlife. Anita Grove with the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve will share examples of area successful living shorelines, describe the benefits and physical factors to consider for living shorelines such as wave energy, prevailing wind and wave direction, vegetation, and soil type.
